Carp Tackle Guide Beginnings

Good afternoon everybody. It is a bright afternoon and I was sitting in my office at work thinking…I’d rather not be here, I would rather be fishing of course. Not easy thing to do at 2.30 in the afternoon when I am supposed to be working. Well I have been busy so a break is needed – and what better than to pop down to the coffee shop and start a blog site on carp fishing!

Carp Tackle Guide is the title of the blog – chosen for no other reason than it is short and neat and I was able to get the domain name! I fancy writing a blog about my exploits in the carp fishing world. Now not many of you carp anglers will have heard of me – let me correct that – none of you will. My fishing has been restricted to pike angling, river fishing for chub and barbel and quite a lot of fly fishing mainly for trout.

I have often read about carp fishing exploits and have caught a few during my general pleasure fishing stints – best I think was two or three pounds in weight! I have also held a few 20-30 pounders during a former life as a fish farmer! This was during a year spent in Greece at a place called Varda just south of Patras on the Peloponese. I even learned a bit of Greek then!

So at the moment I am a carp theoretician. Something I aim to change over the coming year – hopefully helped by some research needed to get this blog sounding reasonable. Mind you, some of the things I read in the carp press these days at least put me in a ranking position from the off. There are a lot of opinions and a lot of funny ideas around – I plan to discuss these and hope for the odd opinion from you in return, please.

So where will I start? My local club is the York Amalgamation of Anglers and it has a handful of waters with decent carp in where I can get started. My carp tackle? Well I will take my 12 foot pike rod with its 2lb test curve and match it to a Shimano bait runner. I will discuss the choice of line as this will have to be new with the tackle shop and do a bit of browsing etc – probably braid these days?

The bits and pieces – this is the bit I like! Fox web site, Ebay and some visits to the carp tackle shop and I hope to have the goods ready soon. I will post a list of the carp tackle I intend to start with and invite comments – I do not plan to take a wheelbarrow of fishing tackle, including three storey bivouac, kitchen sink complete with plate drying rack etc etc. I am more of  a roving angler and hope to do a bit of stalking by next summer. In the meantime I will be looking for a suitable twin to go with my existing borrowed pike fishing tackle and another bite alarm will complete the kit.

Thank you for visiting my first carp tackle post.
